Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC)

DISEC is the disarmament and international security organ of the United Nations, and is considered a key body within the UN. The topics are pertinent to the security of all nations, and are often a top priority. This year, DISEC will be discussing three topics, all centered around Afghanistan: government structure, disarming insurgent groups, and women’s development.

Afghanistan is a compelling case study because it is a state that exhibits tremendous opportunity. The main issues that plague Afghanistan all stem from the lack of a central authority.

DISEC 2013 will be a dynamic committee of world leaders that will push delegates to think outside of the box, and to devise solutions that will provided stability within Afghanistan.

Topic 1: Government Structure

Topic 2: Terrorist Groups

Topic 3: Women’s Development

Chair Information: Teresa Dettloff is a Junior majoring in International Relations. This is her third year as a part of MSUMUN.
