Model United Nations Alumni of Michigan State University

Michigan State University Model United Nations (MSUMUN) and the Michigan State University International Relations Organization (MSU-IRO) have both been around many years now, and a part of the college careers of many Michigan State University students and alumni. It all began with the founding of MSU-IRO in 1979, as MSU’s competitive collegiate model UN team. After many years of success on the college MUN circuit, MSU-IRO founded MSUMUN in 2000, as an organization to staff MSU’s high school Model UN conference. The first session of MSUMUN was held in 2001. Over the years, both organizations have worked closely together, often with a high number of overlapping staff and membership, to foster a premier Model UN program at MSU.

In 2012, the two came together and formally founded Model United Nations Alumni of Michigan State University (MUNAMSU) as an alumni network for MSU alumni who were a part of one or both organizations while students at MSU. The purpose of this network is not only to link alumni and old friends of MSUMUN and MSU-IRO together, but also to connect current staff and members with alumni. We hope that this network will foster the revival of old friendships, as well as the start of new friendships and acquaintances. Alumni can be superb sources of advice, institutional memory, and support for current staff, members, and the organization. Additionally, we hope that over the years alumni will keep in mind all of the good times and great lessons they learned while apart of the team and staff at MSU-IRO and MSUMUN, relive some of them through this network.
