World Health Organization

The World Health Organization, known as WHO, is an international organization, created by the United Nations, to encourage, promote, and ensure the wellbeing of people across the globe, from the Mountains of the Himalayas, to the Saharan desert, to Manhattan. Established in 1948, it seeks to reach its goals of health and safety by helping the vulnerable, supporting countries who may have disease outbreaks, to creating global health standards, to research into diseases, to even providing a public forum for policy and scientific discussions. The WHO has taken on many problems in its history, from vaccination drives, to the eradication of smallpox, and most recently the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The WHO has been one of the most effective UN agencies, reducing the death rates for nearly all diseases, as well as making great strides in reducing the transmission of many diseases, such as malaria, cholera, and others. WHO’s mission, however, is far from over. Many have criticized their recent response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, calling for more preventative actions to be instituted, as well as responding to the immediate aftermath. This will be your mission as a delegate, to navigate the aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and to ensure the next pandemic is better taken care of. Good Luck, and we at MSUMUN will look forward to seeing your ideas.
