The Song of Struggle: La Liga Filipina 1892
1892 marks the height of the propaganda movement and the 326th year the Philippines has been under Spanish rule. While Spain rules the country in name, friars and the Guardia Civil were in charge of local government and law enforcement. However, worries regarding their leadership quickly spread throughout the nation due to the inhumane treatment Phillipinos suffered under their rule. Due to the lack of representation and utter lack of rights afforded to citizens, revolutionary José Rizal has formed a secret society, La Liga Filipina, to combat the treatment of Filipinos. While the league is united in name -- members are split between their wants to focus on reforms, opposition to state violence, and calls to topple the ruling regime altogether. And while internal arguments threaten the effectiveness of La Liga Filipina, external tensions rise as the government gains more realization that their enemies might be more in control than they realized…
Will La Liga Filipina be able to withstand the strain of internal and external resistance to forge a better future for the nation and its citizenry? Or will it crumble to the pressures of infighting and colonial injustice? Only the delegates of The Song of Struggle: La Liga Fillipina 1892 can tell you.
