A World in Crisis: DISEC

Background Guide

The Disarmament and International Security Committee, or DISEC, this year will be focusing on two issues, which delegates will select at the beginning of the committee. The first topic is regarding the illicit smuggling operations conducted by non-state, sanctioned, organized criminal and terrorist groups.  In this, they will find ways to combat these groups by attacking the root causes of these crimes and preventing them from continuing to function. The second topic is the fall of the Afghan Government and the return to power of the Taliban, and the inherent threat to global and regional security that this poses due to the reemergence of terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS.
