Bribery for Beginners: Tammany Hall, 1872
Within this committee, you'll find yourself immersed in the streets of New York City. You won't find the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building or the yellow taxicabs. They don't exist yet. Instead, you'll discover the older, more iconic parts of the Big Apple: crime, corruption, and political scandal.
With droves of new immigrants and a shifting political landscape, there is one only one group who knows how to ride the chaos and end up on top: Tammany Hall - America's finest political machine. Using bribes, blackmail, and blatant fraud Tammany Hall has been able to grow its power steadily throughout the decades. By 1870, William "Boss" Tweed is in charge and he's taking you to new heights. You all are gaining more power, more money, and more influence. But, your recent fortunes have not gone unnoticed. Your critics grow louder, your neighbors walk on the other side of the street, and god forbid the feds may want a closer look at your books. The battle for control of America's largest city is fraught with danger, but if you win, the spoils will make it well worth your while.
In "Bribery for Beginners: Tammany Hall 1870", delegates will portray members of the political machine known as Tammany Hall. Using their various expertise and connections, they will work to maintain and expand control over the city government as New York City enters into a contentious mayoral race. They will need to strategically select a candidate, mobilize their voters, and force the election results - all without getting caught. Working among fellow crooks is no easy task, especially when there is so much power to be grabbed. So if you've ever been described as "shifty" or "power-hungry", you'll feel right at home in Tammany Hall.
