Going GREENGREEN: UNEP

Seeking all kinds of GREENGREEN, United Nation Environment Programme is one of the members of the United Nations sustainable development group aiming to help to meet sustainable goals. This year, delegates will have the ability to learn how to cooperate with each other to make policies that will help this planet more green, green. As technology develops, new environmental threats emerge, escalating both the planet's temperature and water shortage. Artificial Intelligence has become a huge part of our daily lives, making our lives a little convenient. However, from an environmental perspective, Artificial Intelligence is a huge red, red. Artificial Intelligence data centers use large amounts of electricity, yet a lot of data centers are supplied by fossil fuels releasing greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. Along with carbon emissions, data centers use millions of gallons of water, causing problems such as water shortages and water pollution. Delegates will learn how to reduce these problems by sharing technological innovation, promoting renewable energies, better infrastructure design and more.

Rising temperature not only melts the ice glaciers but also expands deserts and degrades fertile lands. Desertification is an ongoing environmental threat that slowly turns the earth away from GREENGREEN while bringing multiple environmental issues. Deserts directly put human health in danger. High winds from the deserts cause sand and dust storms, decreasing the air quality and intensifying air pollution. The degradation of fertile land also takes away some of the species’ habitat, threatening the biodiversity. Delegates will determine how to respond, to monitor and to prevent desertification and paint the earth with the green light.
